OUR HISTORY
The Buchan Group traces its history back to 1890, with the opening of the first practice in Geelong, Victoria. The Perth practice was established in 1896 and the two firms grew through the decades under strong leaders such as John Angus Laird, Thomas Buchan, Charles Oldham, Harold Boas, John Buchan, Colin Ednie-Brown, Llew Bawden, Sid Musto and Peter Arney.
In Victoria, the growth of the practice saw the opening of the Melbourne office in the 1930s This quickly became the larger office, led by Sir John Buchan, Ewan Laird and, later, Llew Bawden.
Paul Malone opened the Brisbane practice in 1983, and in 1990 the three practices formed The Buchan Group and established the Sydney office. The Auckland and Christchurch offices followed shortly afterwards.
Today, The Buchan Group is an interdisciplinary design group, led by 30 directors and principals, and servicing clients across Australia, New Zealand, South East Asia, the Middle East and the United Kingdom.
