Buchan donate services in support of White Ribbon Day

November 30, 2015

The Buchan Group recently collaborated with our client on a very special project promoting freedom from domestic abuse.  Our client donated a house in Castle Hill, Sydney to the Lisa Harnum Foundation (LHF) which is a voice for abused women in the Hills district of Sydney. LHF support women and their children with alternative living to rebuild their lives in a safe environment and provide services such as counselling, group work, courses and training. LHF refer to it as their Sanctuary.

In collaboration with our client and consultants, The Buchan Group provided interior design services for the Sanctuary on a pro bono basis. The refurbishment of the Sanctuary is now complete and furniture and white goods will be delivered in the coming weeks.

Managing Director Bruce Shaw said ‘we are very honoured to have contributed to such a worthy cause and our team took great pride in the design ofthe Sanctuary.’

In support of the cause, Bruce and Associate Elisa Gagliardi took part in a march from Castle Hill Police Station to Castle Hill RSL on White Ribbon Day held on Wednesday 25th November. This was an opportunity for all to show their support and encourage women to break their silence and put a stop to domestic violence.

Imperial Doncaster delivers the ultimate in luxury living

November 17, 2015

AXF’s residential development, Imperial Doncaster, was recently completed, delivering the ultimate in luxury, comfort and convenience in one of Melbourne’s most rapidly changing suburbs.

The 96 unit complex was designed to appeal to a wide demographic, easily catering to the needs of downsizing owner-occupiers with bigger apartment sizes and generous balcony spaces.

“The development brings the epitome of modern urban living to Doncaster,” said Principal Harvey Male.

“The apartments offer a series of adaptable layouts, thoughtful apartment design and established infrastructure.  Residents have everything they need with the benefit of a convenient location and services, communal gardens and outdoor spaces.”

The development, featuring a range of one to three bedroom apartments with a series of large penthouses, is set on a steeply sloping site opposite Westfield Doncaster.  The Buchan Group’s design takes into consideration the local suburbs, parks, shopping centre and already established businesses.
“We sought a balance between the economical, environmental and aesthetic,” said Harvey.
The design responds to the existing landform, stepping down to the west, to both mediate with the existing suburban fabric and to create large planted terraces for penthouse units that benefit from panoramic city views.
The interior design response underpins the luxury, style and sophistication of the development, employing a delicate play between luxe and natural materials to maintain a timeless elegance.

The design considers the surrounding urban grain, using fine detailing and harmonious qualities to create a contrast between tones and textures, reflecting the distinction between the calmness of the apartment space and the busy suburban streetscape.

A point of difference in the interior design is the intelligent use of space.  A true sense of openness is evoked through the clever use of storage and the zoned spaces designed to work from their first principles.  Study nooks provide a light-filled, private work space; kitchens and dining spaces are designed to entertain; and living rooms are designed for living with large open spaces and sweeping views.

The Buchan Group hosts 2015 Retail Symposium

November 10, 2015

The Buchan Group recently hosted the 2015 Retail Symposium aimed at bringing together industry colleagues to explore some of the key topics the retail sector is facing.

A panel of leading retail specialists engaged asset owners, developers, centre operators and consultants in a discussion about the current and future landscape of retail.

Buchan’s CEO David Martin said the symposium provided an opportunity for key players to explore current themes such as place making, space activation, challenges in retail design and the international retail scene.

“As specialists designing and delivering exceptional retail projects around the globe, we are intimately invested in current and future retail drivers and the partnership between key industry stakeholders,” said David.

The expert panel of presenters comprised Andrew Hammonds, Director of Placefocus, Bec McHenry, Chief Executive from The Space Agency and The Buchan Group Principals Grant Withers and David McCarroll.  Collectively they explored Place Making, Urban Design, Place Curation, the importance of creating a sense of community in retail-led lifestyle developments and the effects of online and instore retailing in Asia.

“The symposium was just the beginning of a conversation we will maintain with the retail industry to lead exploration of exciting initiatives as we continue to design lifestyle precincts of the future,” said David.
