Eporo Tower taking shape on Melbourne’s skyline

December 16, 2015

Eporo Tower is rapidly taking shape on its La Trobe Street site with construction reaching the 14th floor and expected to reach the 20th floor by Christmas.  The iconic glass façade is currently being installed.

Owned by the Coptic Church, the tower takes a unique position amongst typical mixed use developments, functioning as both a three-storey church and a 307 residential apartment complex.

The Buchan Group’s design for the glazed 44-storey tower merges contemporary architecture with the classic detailing of the traditional Coptic Church.   Features include five metre high stained glass windows on the 12 storey “jewel box” podium and a Coptic Cross geometric pattern adorning the glass cladding of the tower.

“The development is set to become a stunning and iconic landmark for the Melbourne CBD,“ said Principal - Head of Delivery, Nick Nigro. “We are very proud to have worked with the Coptic Church to deliver a building with such a striking architectural presence.”

The podium building houses ground level retail and cafe spaces, the church’s worship spaces, administration offices as well as seven levels of residential car parking.

A dedicated ground level entrance for the residential apartments is located on La Trobe Street, with a Lobby Lounge inside the front entrance and a Gallery leading to three passenger lifts serving the residential apartments. An exclusive Residents’ Lounge containing dining spaces, kitchen, cinema and lounge spaces is located at Level 11, with outdoor terraces providing amenity and views of the city and beyond.

The Buchan Group celebrates 125 years!

December 1, 2015

Today marks The Buchan Group’s 125th year of operation.  Since its founding on 1st December 1890, The Buchan Group has designed and delivered some of the world’s most stunning and innovative buildings and is recognised for its design excellence and depth of experience across multiple sectors around the globe.

“We are extremely proud to be celebrating such a significant milestone.  Our firm has been through many changes in the last 125 years, yet there have been two important constants: great clients and collaborators and great people. We look forward to building upon our rich history and continuing to deliver inspired designs,” said Managing Director Bruce Shaw.

The practice was first opened in Geelong by John Angus Laird in 1890.  Thomas Buchan joined as a pupil in 1891 and later that year, the practice won its first major commission: a new wool store for Dalgety & Co., beginning an association with Dalgety that lasted almost a century.

125 years on, The Buchan Group has grown to a staff of almost 400 professionals with studios across seven locations in Australia and New Zealand and offices in London, Shanghai and Dubai.  Throughout the decades we have designed and delivered some phenomenal projects around the globe.
