Buchan projects in running for Property Council Awards

The Buchan Group is off to a great start to the year with no less than 6 projects shortlisted for the 2016 Property Council of Australia / Rider Levett Bucknall Innovation and Excellence Awards.

The nominations reflect our successful collaborative design journey with our valued clients and consultants and recognise design excellence across our studios.

Ipswich City heart to be restored

Ipswich City Centre is set to undergo a $150M transformation, creating a vibrant city heart and lifestyle destination for the community.

The Buchan Group is designing the entertainment and commercial hub that will include 30,000m2 of retail, entertainment and dining outlets and open up the Ipswich Mall to face the Bremer River.

The development, by epc.Pacific, will include the relocation of the Council’s administrative offices, city library and civic centre to a 5-Star Green Star multi-level building.  A new 3800m2 Woolworths will be relocated to a prominent mall site adjoining Union Place.

The Buchan Group’s design will encompass the new Town Square, City Mall, Market Place, Council office space and Sky Park. Lead Designer Allen Lucini said that as part of an overall master plan exercise, the development will focus on regenerating the precinct and create a vibrant and active space within the City of Ipswich.

“We are excited  to be part of such a significant urban regeneration project and look forward to working with epc.Pacific to revitalise the CBD and restore the social fabric of Ipswich,” said Allen.

The centre's design seeks to enliven and activate the space through a flexible, landscaped Town Square accommodating a range of activities from public gatherings and entertainment functions to street theatre and a casual meeting place.  The Town Hall will form the architectural centrepiece and the square will be activated by restaurants, cafes and retail.

The design for the City Mall will create the all-important “first impression” of the new Civic Place with impressive architectural expression and a grand entry point.  Landscaping, lighting, stylish signage and active edges will be employed in the design and the street will be activated with restaurants, cafes and sidewalk dining.

Market Place, a large, open, urban-style market, will capture the essence and energy of a bustling traditional market place through its quaint scale, rich textures and vibrant colours, smells and sounds.

To complete the new heart of Ipswich, Sky Park will be located adjacent to city offices, affording impressive views from its elevated position.  The space will provide an opportunity for respite for office workers and offer a quiet reading and relaxation zone external to the library.

The development is set to be completed in 2018-19.
