Christchurch Art Gallery Te Puna o Waiwhetu is the most significant cultural project in New Zealand since Te Papa. The sculptural, iconic form of Christchurch
Art Gallery has become a landmark building in New Zealand and merges the interior environment seamlessly with a major outdoor public space. The NZ$47.5M project was won in a design competition which attracted almost 100 entries. The Gallery opened in 2003 and won the 2004 NZIA Canterbury Chapter Award for Public Buildings.
