The $150M Stage 2 development of Watergardens Town Centre maximises the opportunities created by the Melbourne 2030 Growth Strategy. It has created a synergistic relationship between the existing centre (also designed by The Buchan Group), public transport, main road links and new retail, entertainment, leisure and civic uses, to deliver a true town centre.
Central to the design is a new mall, anchored by Safeway and Big W, with 100 new specialty retailers. The mall links to the existing centre at the new, expanded food court.A major feature of the design is a dramatic glazed atrium that extends over Taylors Creek, linking the existing Centre and the food court to the new mall. A vibrant Town Square has been included in the development and the new $5M, Council-owned Sydenham Library is also part of the project.
Environmental graphics designed by The Buchan Group are a significant element of the new development and have also been used to re-brand existing entries. The development opened in April 2007.
