The Westin Sydney is part of the No.1 Martin Place redevelopment of the Sydney GPO. The design combines the heritage building with the 31-level Westin Hotel tower and the Macquarie Bank office tower. The three elements are linked by a glazed Grand Courtyard that anchors the development. A restaurant court is located in the lower ground level of the Grand Courtyard, below which is a 1000-person ballroom and seven levels of basement car parking.
Interior spaces of the hotel are divided between the heritage building and the new. The hotel has a classical yet unmistakably contemporary identity and abundant natural light is a feature of the guest rooms and most hotel spaces.
The project opened in 1999. The development was the National Winner of the 2001 Property Council of Australia Rider Hunt Awards.
