Last week we commemorated the milestone 20-year anniversary of our Christchurch studio. Our history in Christchurch dates back to the mid-80s, with Buchan designing several local retail staples from our Auckland and Australian studios including Westfield Riccarton, Merivale Mall and The Palms. Following a competition win to design the iconic Christchurch Art Gallery in 1998, Buchan set up a studio in the city which has steadily grown since.
Fast-forward to today and our Christchurch studio has an array of noteworthy projects on the go including The Junction Ravenswood, Coastlands Shoppingtown, Christchurch International Airport ‘Harvard Park’, Ballantynes Interior Expansion, Hornby Mall, Northlands Mall, Tower Junction, Wigram Skies, Bayhill Timaru, Eastfield Ashburton, the Steamer Wharf in Queenstown, HWR Building Invercargill, and Invercargill Central.
Buchan is proud to have had the opportunity to contribute to the evolution of this dynamic city over the years and look forward to our continued involvement in the transformation of Christchurch, its wider surrounds and the New Zealand regions we work within.
In addition to our work in New Zealand, our Christchurch studio also has greater international reach than ever following the unification of our international Buchan practices’; facilitating greater collaboration opportunities and allowing us to offer our clients a larger scope and depth of service.
The celebrations also provided the opportunity to acknowledge those who have supported our team both internally and externally; in particular, Peter Zillman who was the former New Zealand Managing Principal and leader of the Christchurch studio for many years and continues to be a mentor to countless people within the business. Also the outstanding work of Christchurch Practice Manager Raylene McEwan, who has been with the Christchurch studio for the last 19 years and played an integral part of fostering the studio’s inclusive and collaborative culture.
Congratulations to the Christchurch team and thank you to all of the clients, consultants, contractors and suppliers who joined us for the festivities last week. We appreciate your commitment to working with Buchan and look forward to collaborating on many more projects in the future.
