International design practice Buchan continues to build capability and capacity with two new appointments in New Zealand.
Scott Inverarity joins the Auckland studio as a Senior Associate, whilst Christchurch welcomes Associate Crispin Schurr.
New Zealand Regional Operations Leader and Christchurch Principal, Raylene McEwan, says both will work across the entire business, in line with Buchan’s fluid structure designed to bring the best teams to clients regardless of location.
Scott Inverarity brings over 25 years of experience working across sectors including commercial, industrial, transport, retail, education, aged care, healthcare, hospitality, civic and heritage. “Scott has a reputation for high client care and delivering excellent outcomes,” says McEwan. “He’s got a very broad reach across the industry, and we’re looking to grow that. He will have a national role with a focus on client development and delivery and is a valuable addition to our leadership team.”
Crispin Schurr has more than 30 years of experience working on projects within New Zealand and the United Kingdom across the commercial, education, civic and residential sectors. He comes to Buchan from Christchurch City Council where he was responsible for award-winning projects such as the Kohinga St Albans Community Centre. At Buchan, he is on the team designing the Australian Pavilion for Expo 2025 in Osaka. McEwan says Crispin will add all-round strength and diversity to the studio and contribute to sector expansion. “Crispin is a very talented architect with particular expertise in sustainability and timber frame construction. He brings those skills directly into the Christchurch studio as well as to the wider practice and is a great asset.”
McEwan says the New Zealand appointments support Buchan’s broader strategic vision. “We’ve just celebrated 30 years in New Zealand but we’re a 130-year-old business overall. As custodians of the practice, we’re putting in place a team of great people with great skills to bring Buchan forward for the next generation and beyond.”
Buchan CEO, Stephen Auld, agrees. “We’re very positive about the future. The opportunities out there in the current market are exciting and we’re strengthening our team to meet demand and expand the business in New Zealand and around the world.”
