Retail destination set to open on former Pentridge Prison site later this year

Shayher’s Group $1 billion transformation of the former Pentridge Prison site in Melbourne’s inner-north is rapidly taking shape, with the first stage of the vibrant shopping centre scheduled to open at the end of this year, just in time for shoppers to explore ahead of the holiday season.

Buchan’s design for the retail precinct complements the significant heritage of the development site and assembly of former prison buildings, creating a unique shopping destination for the surrounding community. With 80 per cent of the retail space pre-committed, the development seeks to showcase smaller retailers creating a distinctly local offering which sets it apart from many of its peers throughout the city.

A 15-screen cinema, dining and entertainment offering rounds out the characterful retail building, which will link to a public piazza creating a hub for communal activity which will serve the needs of retailers, residents and workers of the Pentridge precinct, as well as the surrounding Coburg community.
