After months of hard work and late nights, shortlisted 2019 Curtin University architecture final year students Ligia Duarte, Alexander Lockhart, Ziagul Alizada, and Joshua Flynn were ready to present their thesis work to an attentive group of Buchan employees and lecturer Ms Lee Syminton.
The projects presented covered a range of themes, from high-level social responsibility – seen in an architectural response for people with PTSD, to the more commercially-focused Carlisle Residential project. Consideration for the environment was present in each response, clearly demonstrating the ever-increasing importance of sustainability in the future of design.
The competition was fierce, with select students also in the running for the Buchan Architectural Student Prize which has been awarded annually for the last 15 years. The Buchan team were impressed by the thought-provoking presentations and innovative design responses showcased, and are excited to follow the students’ future endeavours.
