Launceston Airport has been nationally recognised, taking out the Innovation and Excellence: Non-Aeronautical Development Award at the Australian Airport Association National Airport Industry 2018 Awards.
The award acknowledges how Launceston Airport has successfully reimagined its terminal to improve traveller experience.
Buchan worked to create a space that responded to the functional brief while capturing the Tasmanian story, celebrating the rich culture of food, wine and whiskey, the arts and crafts and the deep connection with history and the landscape.
The essence of the natural environment surrounding the airport is captured in the feature timber ceiling and glass façade, which showcase striking views of the airport and mountains. Locally sourced produce is on offer in the new retail and food and beverage facilities, reinforcing the strong connection to the region.
The Awards were announced on Wednesday 14 November 2018 as part of the AAA’s National Conference.
