DFO Homebush

Sydney, Australia

Overview

The $100+ million upgrade of Homebush’s DFO and the new Homemaker component, has a new interconnected layout that reinforces the centre’s modern factory outlet identity.

Buchan planned the customer-centric upgrade to suit the tenancy mix. The new layout directs customers through retail and breakout zones while providing views of parks, sky and natural light to enhance the shopping experience. There are five vertically integrated levels of shopping and parking, with two food courts.

Contemporary, yet industrial colours define the specialty retail and new homemaker component and complement the existing DFO level and offering to customers. Polished silver shopfronts for the premium mall take the retail character to a new level. This is further enhanced by the mall’s central skylight and a vertical glass box at the northern end of the complex that floods the food precincts with natural light.

Sustainable features such as the centre’s open warehouse space, limited ceiling features and shared mechanical systems, use less energy than traditional retail malls. In the car park, carbon dioxide sensors monitor the building’s air quality output. Reconfiguration and expansion of parking has improved traffic flow, and there is also a new 800-plus basement car park.
