The adaptive re-use and $200 million redevelopment of Sydney’s historic Finger Wharf maximises the outstanding strength of the historic location. Once a wool storage and cargo facility, it is now converted into one of Sydney’s most popular precincts on the waterfront. The central atrium serves as the transition space. It links public and private uses and is the heart of the development.
The project comprises 345 apartments, including 10 apartments in a new residential element at the northern tip of the old wharf. It also includes a 104-room W Sydney Hotel, restaurants, retail, marina and carpark. The restaurants and commercial areas are on the waterfront with the business and residential development behind.
Buchan’s award-winning design retains the evocative heritage character of the landmark Sydney site and gives it a modern relevance, new uses and vitality.
