Overview
World Green Building Week is about creating a connected, interactive, public conversation around the role buildings play in creating our sustainable future.
To celebrate the 2016 theme #OurHeroIsZero Buchan Melbourne hosted an employee competition to design sustainable rooftop amenities for the studio’s Mail Exchange Building.
The five entries showcased:
- a mixture of programs including rooftop farming, horticulture and energy generation;
- the reinvigoration of an unused space with greenery and a photovoltaic shelter;
- usable planting and landscaping, including an urban orchard;
- the social interaction of nature and people, including a greenhouse birdcage; and
- a solar chimney solution to environmental sustainability.
Thank you to all teams for their enthusiastic responses and time. You all made the competition so interesting!
Shigata Kubo was the winner with his solar chimney concept to assist the building’s natural ventilation.
